Day 9 - Rehova - Permet
Monday, May 26
Driving southwest toward Greece
We drove through Erseke, our local guide, Mario’s, hometown, so we stopped for a mid-morning coffee.
Across the street from our coffee spot
Next stop was the village of Rehova where we visited Church of St. Nicholas.
After the church, we visited with Valentina and George at their lovely guest house, where they served us raki and gliko (a candied fruit)
Their lovely garden
We continued on to our lunch spot where we enjoyed the usual fresh salad and vegetable appetizers and fresh trout.
We continued our drive through the mountains along the border with Greece. At one point my cell phone was picking up a signal from Greece and I got a message from Verizon welcoming me to Greece!
After arriving to our hotel in Permet and settling in, we were introduced to a local food specialty, gliko, served with…you guessed it…raki. (I guess this makes today a “two shot day”!) Gliko borrows from an old Greek method of preserving fruit and nuts in sugar syrup.
