Day 7 - Morning Hike in Wanaka Afternoon Drive to Te Anau

Friday, July 10

Driving south on the Crown Range Road, Queenstown off in the distance

Walking around the hotel grounds at breakfast time:

We went on a morning hike up the Mount Iron Track (trail), next to the town with 360 views at the top (approximately 3 mile loop).

Here’s the 360 degree view from the summit:

After our hike, we said good bye to Wanaka and began our drive south to Te Anau. The skies were bright blue and we were surrounded by mountains for the entirety of our journey. We took the Crown Range Road which snakes between the mountains for the first 20 km. or so, and then makes its way gradually up the over the mountain. There was snow on the ground at the summit and then the descent was windy and steep! And beautiful the entire way! (We stopped for lunch in the valley, at the Cardrona Hotel.)

On the road again…

Heading down from the summit…

We arrived at Te Anau, settled into our Bed and Breakfast and went for dinner.

Tomorrow - A boat ride through Milford Sound!
