Day 9 - A “Wee Bookshop at the End of the World” before our Drive to Queenstown
Sunday, July 12
One of Two (soon to be come Three) Wee Bookshops in Manapouri
We left our bed and breakfast in thick fog and made our way further south to see the Wee Bookshops of Ruth Shaw. She wrote The Bookseller at the End of the World, which was recommended to me by more than one person down here. So I started reading it a few days ago and became quite smitten with it. Even though it is closed in the winter and has moved to a new location because Ruth has sold it to a friend, I had to visit it since we were just 15 minutes away.
The bookshops in their new location:
Then driving north to Queenstown…. pretty quickly we were out of the fog and clouds, enjoying the mountains again!
We stopped at a sweet roadside food-truck in the middle of nowhere for lunch, where I had an amazing lamb burger!
Pretty soon we were back alongside Lake Wakatipu which took us into Queenstown (with a brief stop at the rental car place to get chains for the tire in case we need them).
We then met up with our friends at our condo in Queenstown where we’ll stay for the week. We got ourselves settled, went into town to secure our rentals, finalize plans for heli skiing, get the lay of the land, and have an amazing dinner.
Part 2 of our New Zealand adventure has officially begun!
Tomorrow: Skiing!
